Tips and Tricks to Staying Healthy on the Road

If you’re a truck driver you likely spend a significant amount of time on the road. Professional truck driving is not a job for the faint of heart. It involves concentration, long hours, and dedication. To ensure top performance we’ve listed a few tips to keep you in tip-top shape.

  • Don’t skip meals. Your body is a fine tuned machine that needs energy, eat 3 meals a day and a couple healthy snacks throughout the day to keep your metabolism running at full steam.
  • Get plenty of sleep, according to 37% of all drivers claim they have fell asleep behind the wheel at some point in their life.
  • Wear your Seatbelt! When you think of health you think jumping jacks, we think staying alive. Buckle up.
  • Take 10 minutes to do absolutely nothing. Taking time to reflect after a long day allows you to decompress, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing stress levels.
  • Exercise regularly. Exercise can be a tough one if you’re constantly in a truck so you have to be creative. When you stop walk a lap. Carry a couple weights with you and knock out a few reps when stopped.
  • Regulate Stress: Kick back, play your favorite song and relax.
  • Hydrate! Drinking water increases organ functionality and keeps your blood pressure regulated. If you’re thirsty you’re way low.
  • Do not eat too much before traveling otherwise you may find your stomach aching due to churning and you will feel like puking.
  • Take care of your back. You’re sitting, then standing, then climbing. Ensure you lift with your legs when lifting and stretch before engaging in physical activity.
  • Listen to your body, when you’re aching there’s something wrong. Go to a doctor and get yourself checked.
  • Call your friends and family. Keeping in touch with your loved ones will ease the mind and keep you connected to the world.
